How do I make a budget?
First, sit down with your fiancé and talk about where the funds are coming from. Do not estimate. Be as accurate as you can. From there, talk about how large or small you plan for your wedding to be and which aspects are the most important to you. This will bring more clarity as to which parts of the budget will require larger chunks. Allocate a little extra to certain items that are more important to you. Here are the percentage ‘guidelines’ that may help you disperse your funds more evenly.
Photographer / Videographer = 10%
Florist + Band/DJ = 5-10% each
Wedding Dress and Accessories + Rings + Groom’s Attire = 5%
Wedding Cake + Paper Goods + Transportation = 5%
Miscellaneous = 5%
Budget Buffer = 10%-15%
We don’t have a very large budget. What are some items we can do without?
Do not feel pressured to incorporate something just because it seems like it might be the norm. If it’s not detrimental to your day, consider nixing it. Here are a few examples.
